Are your cakes real?
-
Yes each cake is real! Don’t worry, you don’t have to touch it - if you do you’ll leave an imprint. We get this question all the time. It takes more effort and time to make a dummy cake so I prefer to make something that you can eat and enjoy.
How soon do I book my cake?
-
Brides usually book their cake decorator 2-3 months in advance of their wedding in Utah. However, I recommend you call as soon as you’ve selected the date. You must call and see if the date is available. I require a $50 deposit (which is applied to the price of the cake) as a down payment and to reserve the date. This is not refundable if your order is cancelled.
Do you make more than 1 cake a day?
-
Yes, I do more than 1 cake a day when it is possible. I bake your cake a day or two in advance so the flavors can meld together. This makes a delicious and moist cake. The cake itself is stacked shaped and put together fresh the day of your wedding. My cakes are refrigerated (never frozen) so the texture doesn't change.
Are there any separate fees?
-
I require a security deposit which is a replacement cost for plates, silver, platters, candlesticks, supports, rhinestones, and such. This is a separate check which I hold till these items are returned to me within the time frame we determine together. Items must come back in the condition you received them. In the event items are lost, broken/damaged, or not returned this check will be processed unless arrangements are made with me within 5 days of your event. This check will be held till all items are returned. It will be returned when borrowed items are returned and whoever brings the items back will be asked to sign saying they have received this check from me.
Who provides the flowers?
-
If the flowers are made of sugar I will provide them. If they are fresh flowers they will match your decor best if you get them from your florist. Be sure to check with your florist so they know what they need to get for the cake. I can get flowers for you, but you need to know that this will be an extra charge and it can get very pricey. I expect professional flowers if fresh flowers are used. The flowers reflect on the professional look of the cake and on my reputation as people view the finished product. I’ve seen several gorgeous cakes that have been all but ruined by using second-rate flowers.
Is there a charge to put the flowers on the cake?
-
I will be glad to put flowers on the cake if the flowers are there when I arrive. However, I cannot wait for the florist to arrive and in most cases they don't want to wait for me. Usually the florist has delivered flowers several hours before the cake needs to be there. The florist doesn’t need to be there for me to put flowers on your cake - all I need are the flowers.
Can my cake match my colors?
-
I try really hard to make the colors in the cake match. This usually requires a piece of ribbon or a paint swatch that I can have with your order to match the colors as carefully as possible. If you put too many colors into your cake it becomes a birthday cake instead of a wedding cake (Marci cakes or Mad Hatter cakes are the exception). The only colors that concern me are baby blues and baby pinks going together, which will make it look like cake for a baby shower.
How many servings do I need?
-
If you are serving your cake at the end of your wedding and it's not part of a dinner dessert then a three tier cake is usually sufficient. If you want a bigger look then we will be happy to help you out but we want you to realize that there will probably be cake leftover (as if that’s a bad thing?!). We will be happy to do whatever you desire. For many, the cake is the highlight of the decorations.
Do you take orders over the phone?
-
I need a contract with your signature in my possession. If you call and know exactly what you want from a web page then we can usually converse over the phone and work out the details. I prefer to meet in person.
Can I pick up my cake from you?
-
It will depend on the cake you choose. After I’ve finished decorating your cake, I will have you sign that you have received the cake in good condition. You must have an air conditioned car with a flat surface. Once it leaves I will not guarantee the end product. I prefer to make the delivery to make sure the cake is at it's best at the reception.
Is weather a concern?
-
Heat is always a problem for a cake. Direct sun will damage any cake. For outside weddings the cake must be shaded from the sun at all times. Humidity and rain are also a problem. Fondant does not like water. If water or rain gets on the cake it will look like it has chicken pox. Flowers need to be dry and not dripping. Some decorations will not work in the humidity. Pulled or blown sugar will not work in the rain or really high humidity and if this is a cake that you choose you need a back up plan in case of bad weather.
Do you make sheet cakes?
-
If you feel that you need extra servings I will make extra servings. To make it economical for you and easier for me I prefer to make round cakes. I make these cakes out of the same recipe that I use for your wedding cake. There is no special decorations on them. Usually I don't add the fondant because of added cost to you. They do cost more then sheet cakes from the grocery store.
Do you take credit card payments/paypal payments?
-
We can’t accept credit card or paypal payments at this time. However, we will be able to do it soon.
Do you rent tables and accessories?
-
I have a 48" X 29" table that I can rent to you. If you use a table that is somewhat taller then your cake will look bigger without being bigger. You probably want to accessorize your table with flowers, pictures, petals etc. If you table is too big your cake will look small if it is too little your cake will look overdone. If it is too low you will have kids sticking their fingers in your beautiful cake and it won't look the way you imagined it. Note - whatever you do, be sure to check beforehand to see if a very sturdy, level table is available at your reception site.
Can I customize a cake?
-
You can customize a cake and take portions of one and portions of another to make something uniquely yours. If you have seen something online or in a magazine I can also tell you if I can recreate it for you.
Are there any delivery fees?
-
Delivery of the cake is very time consuming. If you live within 15 miles of my kitchen, then delivery is free. All locations outside the 15 mile radius will be charged a fee. Click here to see a map that explains our delivery charges. However there are locales where the travel time is much more than the map shows and prices will adjust accordingly.
